2018 Call for Abstracts
CLOSED
The AVAHO Program Committee is pleased to announce the call for abstracts for our annual meeting in Chicago, IL on September 28-30, 2018.
Abstracts may relate to clinical, translational or laboratory research; projects on evidence-based practice, quality improvement, palliative care, survivorship, programs/initiatives, or disease management; as well as clinical case studies.
New this year, by popular demand! A new abstract category has been added so that members may highlight VA programs or initiatives that do not fall under categories listed above. This category provides a means to disseminate information about programs that may be important to AVAHO members. Given that these abstracts are expected to describe works in progress, rather than traditional hypothesis driven research with mature results, they will NOT be eligible for the prize categories listed below.
Abstracts should be free from commercial bias – promotional abstracts will not be accepted.
All abstracts will be scored via a blind-review process. Those abstracts with the highest rating will be invited to be presented for poster presentation. Accepted abstracts will be published in Federal Practitioner. The authors of the top 3 posters, as judged by an expert panel at the meeting, will receive an award from the Association: 1st place - $1,000; 2nd place - $500; and 3rd place $250.
The first author is considered to be the primary author, responsible for the content and integrity of the project, and will serve as the contact person. At least one author must be a member of AVAHO. All authors, including primary authors, may submit more than one abstract if desired; however, each author can serve as primary author only once. The primary author is expected to present the poster at the meeting. Posters presented by others besides the primary author will not be eligible for awards.
All abstracts must be submitted by midnight (Pacific time) Tuesday, July 17. Authors will be notified of the review results by August 6.
Instructions
All abstracts should be submitted electronically. Link above. Please review the instructions, as below and on the website, and adhere to them as you develop and submit your abstract.
Abstracts should not exceed 350 words (excluding title, author names, and institution information). The abstract title should not exceed 20 words.
Research, Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), and Quality Improvement (QI) projects should clearly address ALL of the following areas:
-
Purpose/rationale
-
Background
-
Methods
-
Results
-
Conclusion/Implications
Case studies should include ALL of the following:
-
Description of the clinical situation
-
Synthesis of relevant literature
-
Implications for clinical practice
-
Disease management
VA Programs or Works In Progress
-
Purpose/rationale
-
Background
-
Methods/Approach
Overall quality of the abstract will be an important criterion for evaluation. Abstracts should not include illustrations in any form, nor bullet points. Abstracts that fail to clearly address the areas indicated above are likely to score poorly and may not be chosen for presentation at the conference. An example of highly scored abstract can be found on the AVAHO web site.
Provide names of all contributing authors and the institution with which they are affiliated. REMINDER: At least one author must be a member of AVAHO. An author may serve as primary author for only one abstract.
All abstracts must be submitted by July 17, 2018.
